Custom Print DesignsSomehow, another year has come and gone. As the last quarter wraps up, you’re starting to wonder if it’s time to launch a new marketing campaign. Close out 2021 with a new array of printed materials that showcase what your business is all about!

There’s just one problem: you aren’t a graphic designer. So, how do you go about designing your new advertisements, business cards, and/or brochures?

If you want others to perceive your business as a high-quality enterprise, it starts with well-designed marketing materials. Here’s why:

  • A clear layout helps customers understand your message.

  • High-quality designs will catch the eye and garner more attention.

  • A poorly designed brochure may lead others to see your business as cheap or unprofessional.

From brochures to business cards, your design choices will impact how clients perceive your business. Why is the layout so important? There are a few factors at play here:

How Colours Affect Your Design

We’ve written before about how colours give your brand a unique impression. But today, we’re going to focus on how colours affect the flow and cohesiveness of your design. Specifically, how too many colours might make it less effective.

In most cases, less is more when it comes to using colour. A myriad of colours can make your design appear cluttered. It also reduces the individual impact of each colour.

Keep it simple; try to limit your design to two or three different colours. Choose colours that contrast one another for a more dramatic effect.

The Order Of Information

Before you start designing, ask yourself this: what information is the most important? What details do your customers need to know?

Once you’ve identified those, you can arrange the information accordingly. For example:

  • Put the least important information in a smaller font.

  • Make your contact information highly visible and easy to read.

  • Place the most important design elements in the centre of the design, or make them larger than other parts of it.

If you’re designing a folded brochure, the layout becomes even more important.

Keep It Simple

With printed designs, the goal is to achieve a message with clarity and cohesion. If you have a design vision in your mind, you might be tempted to let your creativity run wild. But the more elements that you add to your design, the more confusing it can look, often diluting the potency of the piece overall.

Simple designs are surprisingly effective, especially if you’re conveying a complex message. They can also eliminate the need for excessive text on your printed material.

Attention to detail can make for stunning artwork. But when you’re designing printed marketing materials, it’s best to keep things simple.

Think About The Borders

How will the edges of a page or card alter your design? If you use an image in the background, parts of the design could be cut off by the edges. This can make the rest of your design look unfinished. Try to put the most important parts of your design near the middle of the page; that way, nothing important will be lost.

There’s a lot of thought that goes into designing custom print products. But the time you spend will be worthwhile. In the end, you’ll create business cards, flyers, and brochures that will serve as powerful marketing materials for your company.
