large print being printed on a machineWe’ve all seen those stunning graphics at trade shows that make us stop and stare. When you see an image like that, your next question is, “Who made that? What are they selling? And where can I buy it?”

You might see these designs in places like:

  • Trade show booths

  • Storefronts

  • Billboards

  • Vehicle wraps

  • Banners

  • Wall and window decals

Professional and well-designed graphics are great for conversions. But graphic design isn’t easy, especially when you’re working with large format images.

You know that your business is lacking a show-stopping graphic. Ready to get started on it? We’ve put together a few design tips to help you out:

High-Quality Images Are Key

A blown-out design that’s pixelated and blurry won’t impress anyone. You’re better off displaying nothing at all than a low-quality image. A poor design will make your business look unprofessional.

For high-quality images and graphics, we suggest working with a professional printing company. This ensures that when you go to print your design, you won’t be disappointed with the quality.

Think About The Bigger Picture

A font or accent colour might seem subtle when your image is small. But when you scale it up, it may look overpowering. Fonts might be too cluttered to read clearly, while some colours may be too bright.

If your graphic is packed with text, it might be an overload of information for your clients. Choose a legible font over a stylized font every time. If you have a few words that you want to highlight with a different font, be sure that it’s still readable.

And when using bright colours, do so sparingly. You want your brand identity to come through so that people recognize your business.

Keep in mind that most people will see your design from a distance. While you’re selecting colours and fonts, take a few steps back from your monitor. This will allow you to see how your design choices change the overall image.

Use The Right File Format

With a large format graphic, you’ll need to work with vector files instead of raster files. But why? And what’s the difference?

This topic can get pretty complex, but we’re going to keep it simple. Raster files are made up of pixels. When you use this format, your image might look pixelated when you scale it up.

On the other hand, vectorfiles are made of mathematical equations. You can scale your graphic to any size without downgrading its quality.

For any large format graphic, be sure to use a vector file rather than a raster file. A few popular vector extensions include PDF, SVG, AI, and EPS.

You’ve decided that your business needs a new large format graphic; it might be for your storefront, a billboard, or your trade show exhibit. No matter where it ends up, you want to make sure it’s something you’re proud of.
