No matter what kind of printed material you’re designing, one thing remains the same: it’s all about quality over quantity. Your marketing materials represent your business. With each branded flyer, pen, or notepad that you send, you’re showing customers the kind of quality they can expect from your products and services. That’s why it’s so important to use precision, attention to detail, and consideration with each design.

If you’re a business owner, you want to create marketing materials that you customers will actually enjoy. Have you considered custom clothing? You can print your brand logo front and centre on a t-shirt, hoodie, or sweater.

As with anything anyone creates, there are always things you should do and should not do. Sometimes designing your own custom clothing can be tricky, and there are things you want to do and things you want to avoid. But, thankfully, you do not have to make these mistakes, and you can just focus on the achievements. So, in the end, you have nice clothing that you can wear anywhere and feel proud.

Here are a few tips and tricks we have up our sleeves.

  1. Do Print Over Flat Surfaces

To get the best possible print on our clothing, you want to ensure that you have a flat surface. If you print over material like a seam, pocket, or zipper, it creates a gap in the clothing, and you will not get a significant print. And, of course, you want a great print so that way people can read what is on your shirt. Plus, you do not want to look like you do not know what you are doing.

  1. Do Pick Your Clothing Wisely

Many people like to put jumbo prints onto their clothing, but you should know that not all clothing is made the same. If you try to put a jumbo design on a tank top, this will not work very well since tank tops are usually low cut, and you will have to print over a seam. The same goes for V-neck shirts, as well. V-neck shirts are too low, so you will not get the whole print on this item of clothing. Lastly, girls’ t-shirts are hard to make a jumbo print on and can cause loss of form, ripped fabric, and distorted images. If you are using smaller lettering, then no problem, but be sure to be picky about the clothing you choose depending on the size of lettering you are using.

  1. Don’t Print on Ribbed Clothing

Ribbed clothing is an excellent material to wear because it is stretchy, so it helps fit the person wearing it. But, this type of material is not good to print on. When the ribbed shirt is put on the heat press, it does not stretch out, making the lettering only go on the rib area of the shirt. Plus, you will not get the detail you want on a regular cotton shirt. And, when the person puts on the shirt, the ink falls apart, which does not look good. So, printing on ribbed clothing is something you want to avoid.

  1. Don’t Pick Anything Other Than Cotton

When printing on hoodies or sweatshirts, you want to choose clothing that is 100% cotton. The reason for this is that when the pieces are 100% cotton, this will ensure the best design outcome for your clothing, especially hoodies since they are usually made out of a thicker material. And, you want to look good, right?
